Why wool insulation?

Why wool insulation?

Natural science that works for you and our planet

No other material, natural or man-made, has the qualities and adaptability of wool.

Wool is hygroscopic, enabling it to absorb and release water vapour. This natural phenomenon, unique to wool, distinguishes it from synthetic insulation. Insulation R-values are typically tested in dry laboratory environments and don’t model the moisture present in real-world conditions. What this means is that although R values of other insulation materials may look great on paper, their performance once in your wall or ceiling system is often a very different story. Many other insulation materials can release toxic vapours too, while wool filters your air.

The unique properties of wool insulation mean it excels in managing moisture while maintaining its thermal performance. This crucial benefit helps reduce the risk of moisture buildup, which can cause mould within your home.

Here’s the technical bit…Wool adsorbs water (That’s right – adsorbs – not absorbs). Once inside the fibre, there is a temporary chemical bond (hydrogen bond) attaching water molecules to the surfaces of inner structures of the fibre. Adsorbtion is exothermic, meaning that it releases heat back into your home just when you need it. Breaking the hydrogen bond and freeing the water molecule, desorption, requires heat. This provides free cooling as required. Wool insulation, when enabled by the right wall and ceiling linings works like wool clothing does. It keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, just like your favourite merino tee shirt.

The structure of wool fibre delivers exceptional functional and technical performance, and you can also be confident that you’re making the right choice for the delicate ecosystem of our planet. The Foreverbreathe system combines wool insulation with wall linings and rigid air barriers that enable wool to perform at its best.

Build a Foreverbreathe Home – A Sustainable and Healthy Choice

What is Foreverbreathe and why should I choose it in my new home build

Building a new home is a major decision, and you want to ensure that you choose materials and specifications that are not only sustainable but also promote a healthy and comfortable living environment. This is where the Foreverbreathe specification comes in. In this blog, we will explore what Foreverbreathe is and why it is a promising choice for your new home build.

The Foreverbreathe specification

The Foreverbreathe specification is both vapour-permeable and relatively airtight. The process of moisture control in this system is superior, as it moves moisture vapour away from the home’s interior to be captured by wool insulation. The moisture is then converted through a process of evaporation. As a result, there is no moisture vapour congestion within building materials, no mould, no condensation, and reduced energy consumption.

Air Quality

Indoor air quality is excellent as the Foreverbreathe specification promotes healthy living by ensuring good ventilation and adequate moisture control. Thus, you can create a healthier home for your family, where the air quality is free from toxins and other harmful particles.

Sustainable Development

The Foreverbreathe specification meets the Sustainable Development goals outlined in The Brundtland Report. This report recommends that sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Incorporating the Foreverbreathe specification in your new home build means that you are doing your part to protect the planet and create a future where people can thrive.

Conclusion:

The Foreverbreathe specification is an inspired choice for your new home build. It is sustainable, healthy, and promotes good ventilation and moisture control, ensuring that your family can live in a comfortable environment.

By choosing Foreverbreathe, you are making a difference in the fight against climate change and contributing to a better future for generations to come.

Take the first step now by contacting us to learn more about the Foreverbreathe specification and how we can help you build a healthy, energy efficient home. Remember, a sustainable home is not only good for the environment but also an investment for your family’s future.
